Nigeria rugby senior men’s national team also known as the Black Stallions, on Saturday overwhelmed Ghana, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo to reach the quarter-final of the ongoing 2024 Paris pre-Olympics qualifiers.
The competition is taking place in Mauritius.
Black Stallions’ Thumps Up Display
The Black stallions kicked off their campaign on an impressive note with 24-7 victory over Ghana in the first match of the day.
In the second game, boosted by their first win, Black Stallions breezed through Burundi in an impressive 42 -14 win, which moved them to the top of pool A.
The third match saw Nigeria confirming their supremacy over every opponent in their group when they blew apart Democratic Republic of Congo 43-0 to qualify for the last eight stage of the competition.
Next Level
Nigeria awaits results from other pools to know their next opponent.
Mauritania, Botswana, Lesotho and Algeria are in pool B, while pool C has Senegal, Cameroon, Egypt and Cote d’ivoire together.
Overall, top three teams will qualify to compete in the Africa Cup Sevens in Zimbabwe later in September, 2023.
