Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Monday night reshuffled the Rwandan National Security Agencies, reassigning senior military officers to new posts.
The President announced the appointment of Major General Juvénal Marizamunda as the new Minister of Defence, taking over from Major General Albert Murasira who has held the post since 2018.
He also appointed Lieutenant General Mubarakh Muganga as the new Chief of Army Staff.
Muganga is taking over as the new army chief from General Jean Bosco Kazura who ran the Rwanda Defence Force since November 2019.
President Kagame did not however give any reason for the reshuffle.
He also appointed a new army chief of staff as well as head of military intelligence.
Other security agents appointed are Major General Alex Kagame, Col Theodomir Bahizi, Major General Eugene Nkubito, Col Augustin Migabo, General Evariste Murenzi, Francis Regis Gatarayiha and Jean Bosco Ntibitura.
Kagame named Col Regis Gatarayiha as RDF-Military Intelligence days after Uganda Intelligence warned of a possible twin coup in the greatlakes region.
In another move, he changed the top commanders of Rwandan troops deployed in Mozambique to help fight militant Islamists.
