Amidst tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group, the Saudi Arabian government has advised its citizens to leave Lebanon without delay. This directive places Saudi Arabia among several other nations that have recently issued similar advisories.
On Saturday, the Saudi embassy in Beirut released a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. The embassy announced that it is closely monitoring developments in southern Lebanon and strongly recommends that Saudi citizens refrain from traveling to Lebanon. Those currently in the country are urged to depart immediately for their safety.
This warning aligns with similar alerts issued last week by Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and Kuwait. These countries have all advised their nationals to avoid traveling to Lebanon and for those present to exit the country as quickly as possible.
The heightened alert comes amid a broader regional tension, with Iran issuing a stark warning. Tehran has declared that “all Resistance Fronts,” which includes Iran and its regional allies, are prepared to confront Israel if it attacks Lebanon. This statement from Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York has fueled concerns of a potential wider regional conflict.
The fears of an expanded conflict are rooted in the ongoing exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah, which have become a daily occurrence since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. The persistent fights have significantly raised the stakes, making the situation in Lebanon increasingly volatile and unpredictable.
