Super Eagles winger Moses claimed his first trophy after Nantes won their fourth Coupe de France trophy with a narrow 1-0 win over Nice at the Stade de France.
The Nigerian international played a starring role in his side’s long-awaited triumph as Antoine Kombouare’s men swept aside OGC Nice to clinch their first major title since 2001.
Simon, who has been one of Nantes’ best players this season, played his part in his 73rd minute on the pitch. The 27-year-old made three key passes, put in five crosses and one shot off target.
The first half was cagey for both sides, with few clear-cut chances of note being created as the enormity of the occasion may have affected the players on the pitch.
However, just 15 seconds into the second half, there was drama as Nantes were awarded a penalty. Nice midfielder Hicham Boudaoui was judged to have handled the ball in the box by match official Stephanie Frappart.
Nantes striker Ludovic Blas made no mistake from the spot-kick, as the forward smashed his penalty into the top corner beyond Marcin Bulka in the Nice goal to give Les Canaris the advantage with his 14th goal of the season.
Les Canaris held on to their lead to secure another famous night in their 79-year history – as tempers flared in the dying seconds.
