Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has been accused of being “illiterate” by the leader of a South African party that he had accused of “pushing genocide” in his native country.
The public dispute between Elon Musk and Julius Malema is due to a controversial song that was sung at an EFF meeting last weekend. The song is a legacy of the fight against apartheid, but some people find its lyrics to be inciting violence against white farmers.
Musk has called for Malema to be prosecuted for singing the song, while Malema has accused Musk of being ignorant of South African history.
The song, which includes the lyrics “Kill the Boer the Farmer,” has long been a thorny issue in South Africa, with its violent lyrics seen by some as inflammatory.
Musk, who was born in Pretoria, South Africa, called on President Cyril Ramaphosa, head of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), to speak out against the song.
Malema has defended the song, saying that it is a historical artifact that does not promote violence. He has also accused Musk of being ignorant of South African history.
The dispute is likely to be a hot-button issue in the upcoming elections
