The Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Lagos, Nigeria, is set to host the first-ever South Africa Week Celebrations, in commemoration of the country’s 29th Anniversary of South Africa’s democracy.
The event also coincides with the 29 years of formal diplomatic relations between South Africa and Nigeria.
With the theme, “Celebrating 29 Years of South Africa’s Democracy and Bilateral Relations Between South Africa and Nigeria” the week-long event will take place from April 22 to 29.
The event according to authorities aims to celebrate years of democracy and freedom.
It is also expected to deepen bilateral relations through trade and investment, creating social cohesion through a tapestry of arts and culture, positioning South Africa as a preferred tourism, education and business destination and celebrating the diversity in Nigeria.
Events expected to take place within the period include, Launch of South Africa Week and Tourism Activation as well as South African and Nigerian Movie and Comedy Night.
There will also be South Africa-Nigeria Trade and Investment Roundtable, Freedom Day Celebration and SACG Golf Tournament to wrap up the week.
South Africa has repeatedly been accused of unfavourable policies against Nigerian businessmen in the country.
Nigerians have also faced xenophobic attacks in the country, with Nigerian business interests looted or shut down.
