The department of Home Affairs, South Africa have started to process of deporting no fewer than 20 migrants from other African countries.
The migrants were part of a months-long protest against xenophobia in South Africa which began in October 2019 in Cape Town with a sit-in outside the offices of the United Nations High Commissioners for Refugees.
During the protest, the migrants demanded to be relocated to a third country outside South Africa and their home countries as they do not feel safe in either place.
The home affairs department noted that the deportation of the 20 migrants followed due process and was confirmed by the court earlier this week.
More migrants are expected to be deported.
