Nigeria’s Super Eagles Thursday morning fell to a 0-2 defeat against World Cup bound Costa Rica senior men team inside the National stadium in San Jose.
The match served as a tune up for the Costa Rica side heading to Qatar for the 2022 global soccer fiesta.
The friendly match was the first time ever both Costa Rica and the Super Eagles will meet at senior level.
And goals in each half from Oscar Duarte and Kendall Waston, secured the win for Costa Rica.
Both goals were set up by former Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.
The win extends Costa Rica’s winning streak against Nigeria at all levels to two, having won 1-0 in a friendly played in 2011.
The North American team are in group E alongside Germany, Japan and Spain at the World Cup finals.
The 2003 African champions had lost 1-2 to Algeria last month in another friendly encounter at Oman.
They however beat humiliated Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in the African Nations Cup qualifier earlier.
Nigeria will play another international friendly match with another World Cup bound Portugal on November 10, 2022.
This time around, the crop of Nigerian players will those who play their football trade outside Nigeria, unlike the home-based side who prosecuted the Costa Rica game.
