Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has stated that armed conflict between Taiwan and China is “absolutely not an option”. She has also vowed to strengthen the island’s defences and repeated her desire to hold talks with Beijing.
The leader of Taiwan reiterates Kyiv’s policy, which it implemented in the wake of Russia’s war on Ukraine, to mobilize and train more civilians to assist the military.
“I want the Beijing authorities to know that a physical confrontation between our two sides is impossible. A basis for resuming positive dialogue across the Taiwan Strait can only be created by respecting Taiwan’s people’s dedication to our sovereignty, democracy, and freedom, “Tsai stated in her speech for national day.
In a speech on Taiwan’s national day, the leader warned Beijing that the island would never abandon its democratic way of life.
President Tsai Ing-wen linked the attack by Moscow on Ukraine to Beijing’s ambition to one day annexe Taiwan, which it has sworn to achieve, using force if necessary.
The threat that these military buildups pose to the free and democratic international system cannot be ignored, she emphasized.
“Taiwan’s democracy and freedom’s elimination would be a serious setback for the world’s democracies,” she stated.
