Father of Bayern Munich and Cameroon forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has defended his son from any accusations that he was unwilling to represent his country for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Cape Verde and Rwanda at the end of March.
The striker will not feature for the Indomitable Lions for their double-header fixtures after his German club confirmed that an invitation did not reach him due to a supposed e-mail error.
It is believed that while trying to call up one of their most important players ahead of two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Cameroonian Football Federation fired out an email call-up which did not get to the 31-year-old.
Reactions have since trailed the development as the former Stoke City star has been accused of being unpatriotic, but his father, Camille has cleared the air on the issue, insisting that his son had not received an invitation.
“I was contacted by the association to find out what was going on. I contacted FC Bayern and they confirmed that they had not received the invitation,” Choupo-Moting senior told Naja TV per Bavarianfootballworks.
“It looks like she sent it to the wrong email address instead. For me, that’s a lack of professionalism.
“When sending invitations, be sure to send them to the correct address. If that doesn’t happen, I don’t understand why it’s the club’s or Maxim’s fault.”
Choupo-Moting, who also played for Paris Saint-Germain before his 2020 move to Bayern, has been capped 55 times by his national team.
