The Management of Heritage Bank has defended the protest carried out by its staff at the residence of former Senator, Andy Uba in Abuja on Monday, stating that the action was in line with its objectives.
Managing Director/CEO of Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo in a statement issued on Wednesday, defended the action aimed at Uba over failure to pay back his loans.
According to Sekibo, the actions of the staff was not out of place, as it was in line with the bank’s “strategic business objective”, and was aimed “solely to address the indebtedness of the customer”.
He added that the bank was prioritizing recovery of all “outstanding loans owed the bank, with the clear intent to bring same in conformity with agreed levels”.
Sekibo further said, that although the bank did not deliberately put out their actions on social media, “I urge that we see the aftermath of the recent events in line with our resolve to realizing our recovery objective with a view to sustaining and Improving our service delivery to all our stakeholders”.
He affirmed that the bank was being owed by the senator, and urged the public to be “bold and tenacious, fiercely engaging the market and refusing all forms of intimidation which this current phase may present”.
This was even as a staff of the bank had earlier disclosed that Senator Uba had previously ignored all forms of dialogue.
Heritage Times had earlier reported that that the loans which runs into billions of Naira, has been overdue for several years and attempts to get the former Anambra South Senatorial District representative to pay up, has been abortive.
The staff in a viral video stated that failure of the senator to pay his loans would lead to the immediate lay off of staffs who marched out in mass.
With the statement by the bank, it was clear the staffs were able to get a message across to Uba.
