Kelechi Nwakali has explained that he was dismissed from Spanish second division side SD Huesca for honouring Nigeria’s invitation to the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Nwakali made the revelation hours after his contract termination at the club.
The former Golden Eaglets’ star revealed that SD Huesca sporting director Ruben Garcia was not happy with the invitation he got to represent Nigeria at AFCON.
According to Nwakali, Garcia did all he could to block him from traveling out of Spain and when all efforts were futile, the sporting director vowed that he won’t play for the club again.
“SD Huesca sporting director Ruben Garcia put extreme pressure on me not to go to 2021 AFCON with Super Eagles saying the competition was not important, but I cannot reject the chance to play for Nigeria. ”He told me that I will never play for the club again if I should go to Cameroon with the Super Eagles,” Nwakali revealed in a statement posted on his official Twitter handle.
Kelechi Nwakali only played against Guinea-Bissau and missed the round of 16 clash against Tunisia due to illness.
