Chelsea kayoed Sevilla on Wednesday night with an emphatic 4 – 0 defeat at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Oliver Giroud grabbed the headlines after an impressive showing which saw him net all four of Chelsea’s goals to extend their lead at top of Group E in the Champions League.
The Frenchman had open his Champions League account in the 8th minutes for the Blues and it ended 1 – 0 at half time.
At the start the start of the second 45 minutes, the 34-year-old made it 2-0 in the 64th minutes before completing his hat-trick in the 74th to wow Frank Lampard who watched with delight from the sidelines.’
Not done yet, Sergi Gomez pushed Giroud in the box in the 83rd minute which resulted in a Chelsea penalty which was also converted by the Frenchman.
Chelsea boss Lampard said, as cited on the club’s website: “It was an amazing performance, to score four goals at this level, Champions League level, and against a really good opponent.
“The individual quality of all of his goals – I know the last one was a penalty – but the team quality of the goals and his individual input were good to see.
Four goals, rightly he gets a standing ovation as he comes off the pitch. I’m delighted for him.” The duel ended 4-0 in favour of Chelsea and the Blues remain on top of Group E with 13 points after five games.
