Thunderstorm has reportedly killed a Nigerian football Referee, Mustapha Mohammed Bello, in Suleja, one of major towns in Niger state.
This was disclosed by the Nigeria Referee Association (NRA) via a statement on Wednesday.
The statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of NRA in Niger state, Umar Mohammed and Mohammed. She further revealed that the late referee has been buried.
The statement said the referee struck by thunder while he was officiating a match of the country’s second tier league known as Nigeria National League (NNL).
Part of the statement reads, “NRA family regrets to announce the death of Mustapha Mohammed Bello, Nigeria National League (NNL) Referees from Niger State (Football) Referees’ Council.
“Mustapha died Tuesday afternoon while officiating a football match at Suleja through a thunderstorm. May the Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest”.
The thunderstorm might have been triggered by gloom weather condition which later witnessed heavy downpour penultimate day.
