Two Nigerian footballers – Calvin Bassey and Lesley Ogochukwu have decided to join English Premier League sides – Fulham and Chelsea.
While Bassey has completed a switch from Ajax of Amsterdam, Ogochukwu from Rennes of France already has an agreement reached between his current club and Chelsea.
Fulham Confirmation
Fulham in a statement via the club’s website announced, “The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Calvin Bassey from Ajax for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance, which is expected to be received during the early part of next week.
“The 23-year-old defender has agreed a contract until the summer of 2027, with a Club option to extend by a further 12 months.
“Bassey will wear the number three shirt this season.“
Responding, Bassey said, “They always have quality players, they’re playing in the Premier League – the best league in the world – so I didn’t have to think much about it.
“It’s a London club as well, so it’s always a plus to go home! I’m happy it’s all done now and I can just focus on the football and help the team build on last season when they did amazing.”
Bassey, a defender made his debut for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier last year.
He now has 10 caps to his name.
Ogochukwu Chelsea Deal
For Ogochukwu, Rennes and Chelsea have come to terms on a deal valued at approximately £23m, paving the way for the transfer of the French under-19 international.
Reports from London said he has already committed to a long-term contract with Chelsea and is now set to undergo a medical examination and finalise his move.
Ogochukwu primarily operates as a defensive midfielder and boasts an impressive record of 60 senior appearances for Rennes.
Rennes finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season, earning qualification for the Europa League.
