Chelsea Manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed uncertainty over the availability of Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech for Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Liverpool.
The pair were both withdrawn during the early stages of the second half against Lille on Tuesday night as the duo seemingly sustained injuries without involvement from a Lille player.
While Tuchel has chosen to remain optimistic ahead of the Wembley showpiece, he acknowledged that he was currently in the dark over their respective issues.
Speaking to BT Sport, Tuchel said: “I don’t know. I should have subbed Mateo Kovacic at half-time so could have had one more change.
“I have not spoken to the doctor about Hakim and hope it is not serious. Today is Tuesday, there are a lot of days to recover until Sunday. We don’t like to have that many injuries and more impact from the bench on a tactical matter. I hope they will be ready for Sunday.”
Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic got on the scoresheet as the reigning European champions recorded a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
