Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has ruled out Thiago Silva for Sunday’s Premier League Clash with Sheffield United due to an injury he sustained in the victory over Jose Mourinho’s led Spurs on Thursday night.
The Brazilian defender wobbled off the pitch before the stroke of half-time after he took a blow to his upper leg having stretched for a ball.
Silva has formed a colossal centre back partnership with Antonio Rudiger so far under Tuchel, and the duo almost paired for another clean sheet in the kitty; only for the 36-year-old to be taken off for Christensen.
Tuchel, who has shoved aside the possibility of having the defender back into the squad too soon, refused to comment on the nature of Thiago’s injury.
“It will be very tight for Sunday’s game, only two days recovery,’ Tuchel told the club’s website. “It is too early to give a diagnosis because I saw him very briefly with a big strap around his muscle.
“We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt.”
Tuchel’s men will next face Barnsley on Thursday, in an FA Cup 5th round tie, before hosting Newcastle Utd for the EPL the following week.
It was the German’s second win in his first three games in charge, after Wolves draw and third successive clean sheets as well; making him the first Chelsea manager to achieve such feat since 2004, when Jose Mourinho did it.
Chelsea moved sixth above Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton on goal difference, pending on the outcome of the Toffees trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.
