Unknown assailants fired shots at a plane sent by the Turkish government for evacuation as it landed at an airbase located on the outskirts of Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan.
The Turkish Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the plane landed safely at Wadi Seidna with all passengers unharmed.
Sudan’s army has blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the attack which damaged the plane’s fuel system.
The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has denied these claims, stating that it remains committed to the current humanitarian truce.
Despite a three-day extension of the ceasefire, military factions in Sudan continue to engage in hostilities, with army jets conducting bombing raids on RSF positions in Khartoum.
The recent upsurge of violence has resulted in tens of thousands of displaced people and multiple fatalities.
Nevertheless, Turkey’s defence minister has reiterated his country’s commitment to rescuing Turkish citizens caught up in the crisis.
