A team of delegates has been set up by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to engage with Twitter over the recent suspension of the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in Nigeria.
The team comprises the Attorney General of the Federation Minister of Justice, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Works and Housing, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, as well as other relevant government agencies.
It would be recalled that Twitter was indefinitely suspended in Nigeria, for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, the government stated.
According to a statement by the Special Assistant to The President (Media), Segun Adeyemi, “Twitter wrote to President Buhari seeking to engage with the Federal Government over the suspension, with a view to charting a path forward.”
The move by the Nigerian Government to dialogue with Twitter over the suspension of the microblogging platform comes after weeks of stand-off.
