The Nigerian Government would today have a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions from the UK and US, following statements over the recent ban of Twitter in Nigeria.
The Nigerian government had over the weekend placed an indefinite suspension on the social media app, days after Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet was deleted.
Although the government claims the suspension was made following concerns of tensions, fake news, many diplomatic missions had condemned the move by the Nigerian government.
A statement by the Foreign Affairs department of the nation reads, “I am directed to inform that following the recent ban on Twitter by the Federal Government and Press Statement issued by some Heads of Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Nigeria on the subject matter, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency, Geoffrey Onyeama has invited the affected Ambassadors to a Meeting today at 12noon.”
