Nigeria’s Super Eagles hitman Victor Osimhen will not be featuring when Napoli clash with fellow Serie A side AC Milan in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday April 12, 2023.
According to his club, his absence from the continental competition was due to his inability to recover from the injury he sustained from the last international duty.
The club via its website said Osimhen “worked separately” from other members of the team on Tuesday.
Already, he has been left out of manager Luciano Spalletti’s matchday squad.
Nigeria’s Osimhen, who is Serie A’s top scorer this season with 21 goals, has missed this month’s league games against Milan and Lecce due to a thigh strain.
Giacomo Raspadori is expected to lead the line against Milan, with Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone also sidelined due to a thigh issue.
Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 on aggregate in the last 16 last month to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time.
They are 16 points clear at the top of Serie A with nine matches left but lost 4-0 at home to AC Milan in the league on April 2.
Meanwhile, Manchester City thrashed Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg encounter of the last eight match at the Etihad.
