Chelsea continued in their wumbling state, as Real Madrid beat Frank Lampard-led side, to cruise into the semi-final of 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League stage.
It took a Rodrygo second half brace in the second leg encounter for Real to complete the thumping of the Blues on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.
The loss, made it the first time Chelsea have lost four games in a row since 1993.
A cagey opening 45 minutes, looked similar to Madrid’s 2-0 win in the first leg of the quarterfinal tie, as Chelsea came out strong before the visitors settled into the game and were largely in control up to half-time.
While Chelsea’s season will end trophy-less under their new American owners despite a £500 million pounds ($621 million) outlay on new players, 14-times European champions, Madrid march on with Ancelotti eyeing the trophy for a fifth time.
Similarly, AC Milan held on to reach their first Champions League semi-final since 2007, after former Chelsea man Oliver Giroud scored the deciding goal for them in the second leg encounter against Napoli same night.
Though, Nigerian man, Victor Osimhen, scored late in the added time of the game, it was however, not enough for the Naples, who are on the cusp of lifting Serie A title in current term, to upstage Milan.
Osimhen’s team mate, Kvaratskhelia’s 82nd-minute penalty could have saved the day and give further hopes, but it was lost.
At the end, AC Milan scaled through on a slim 2-1 victory aggregate.
