Nigeria-born Mixed Martial Artist Israel Adesanya will on September 10, 2023, defend his UFC middleweight title against Sean Strickland at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 293.
This was confirmed by UFC president, Dana White.
“The main event, Israel Adesanya defends his middleweight title against fifth-ranked Sean Strickland.
“What I love about Israel, he’s always ready to take on the best in the world, anyone, any time. Strickland is an absolute maniac, who doesn’t back down from anyone. This will be a great fight,” he said.
The fight is Strickland’s first UFC title fight, and according to organisers, it will come up in the Australian city of Sydney.
Adesanya also known as Last Stylebender was initially scheduled to face South Africa’s Dircus du Plessis but the opponent is yet to recover from an injury.
Adesanya stamped his authority in the UFC in April when he regained his middleweight belt against Alex Pereira, five months after he lost it.
The co-main event will see Tai Tuivasa battle Alexander Volkov while Kai Kara-France has a score to settle against Angola star Manel Kape.
