At least four explosions have been reported in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, with a presidential adviser attributing “kamikaze drones” launched by Russia.
Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff for Ukrainian President Zelensky, remarked that it demonstrated their desperation.
The central Shevchenkivskiy neighborhood’s residential buildings, according to Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, have been damaged.
A week ago, the nation’s capital was targeted by Russian missiles during rush hour as part of widespread attacks that claimed 19 lives.
The strikes this morning were carried out by drones, whose low buzzing is becoming a common sound around the nation.
As anti-aircraft batteries hurriedly attempted to shoot them down, Kyiv echoed to the rattle of gunfire. One interception looked to be captured on video posted on social media.
Approximately 06:30 local time (03:30 GMT) on Monday marked the start of the explosions, which numbered at least five in total. The last occurred at at 8:10 local time.
Two were near the city’s center, and the entire region heard sirens and automobile alarms.
It’s difficult to tell what is being targeted. Residential and non-residential buildings have been damaged, according to the mayor’s office. Authorities on the railways report seeing explosions close to Kyiv’s main station.
The energy infrastructure of Ukraine has been a target of recent attacks. It will be unexpected if that isn’t the situation right now.
Mr. Klitschko claimed there were four attacks in Kyiv in a post on the social media platform Telegram, however locals reported hearing five to six explosions. Moreover, he advised people to remain in air raid shelters.
The streets are far from deserted, though, despite the warnings. There looked to be a large number of people going about their Monday morning activities in between the first and second wave of strikes.
The kamikaze assaults, according to Mr. Yermak, were Russia’s “death throes,” and Ukraine urgently needed more air defense systems.
