President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Ivan Kholostenko as Ukraine’s ambassador to Nigeria.
The decrees to that effect have been published on the website of the head of state.
A statement by the the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, explained that Kholostenko’s appointment was in accordance with Decree No. 888/2022.
It would be recalled that Zelensky earlier said that next year, Ukraine plans to open new embassies in ten African countries and a Ukraine-Africa trade house with representative offices in the capitals of the most promising countries on the African continent.
The appointment is coming at a time Ukraine is suffering bombardment from Russia in a conflict that has no end in sight since it began since February 24, 2022.
Last week, Volodymyr made a dramatic visit to Washington Wednesday — his first known trip outside Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
He met with President Joe Biden at the White House and addressed Congress as lawmakers voted on $45 billion more in emergency aid, and Biden announced the US will send Ukraine a Patriot anti-missile battery to defend against devastating Russian attacks.
