The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has condemned the unending attacks by bandits in Zamfara State, northern Nigeria, and has urged the Nigerian Government to deal with perpetrators of the recent killings.
This was contained in a statement on Monday by his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.
Heritage Times recalls that over 140 locals were killed by bandit kingpin recently.
The locals were said to have been killed when dreaded bandit leader, Turji and his men were relocating from Shinkafi forests to another forest near Bukkuyum and Anka Local Government Areas of the State.
Thus, an assurance was made by Guterres who suggested the arrest and prosecution of the assailants to the Nigerian Government, and the UN’s support in the fight against terrorists and other criminals.
The Secretary-General condemned the brutal attacks on the civilians and urged the Nigerian authorities to put more effort in bringing those responsible for these terrible crimes to justice
The UN Chief also sent out his heartfelt condolences to the families that were affected.
