Manchester United on Saturday defeated their City rivals 2-1 in dramatic comeback victory at Old Trafford in one of the English Premier League (EPL) matches.
With the latest result, the Red Devils moved to within six points of the EPL summit.
From the blast of whistle, Pep Guardiola’s City like they did when they were shockingly beaten by Southampton in a League Cup earlier in the week, struggled to carve out openings in a tense early period and it was the hosts who had the better opportunities.
Bruno Fernandes sizzled just wide of the far post from a narrow angle before Rashford had a shot blocked on the line and an effort well saved by Ederson.
City stepped up a gear following the interval and Grealish broke the deadlock within 193 seconds of emerging from the bench when he headed home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross on the hour mark.
However, United stunned the away side with two goals in four minutes to turn the game on its head.
First Rashford left a through pass from his offside position, allowing Fernandes to arrive from deep and fire home the equaliser on 78 minutes.
Rashford was then perfectly placed to tuck in from close range eight minutes from time after a lovely turn and cross from substitute Alejandro Garnacho.
The result means United move up to third spot, just one point behind Man City and six adrift of leaders Arsenal, who face Tottenham in the North London derby on Sunday.
Man United will now face Crystal Palace on Wednesday while Man City host Tottenham on Thursday night.
Later on Saturday, Brighton moved above Liverpool in the Premier League standings after they condemned Jurgen Klopp’s side to a dismal defeat at Amex Stadium.
It was Solly March’s double and a late Danny Welbeck strike that gave serial giant killers the victory.
Brighton have now scored in each of their last eight games in the top flight, netting 21 goals in that run.
In another EPL encounter, Alex Iwobi Everton gave out their early lead to Southampton with Nigeria’s Joe Aribo on parade.
The Saints eventually won the game 2-1.
Southampton stay bottom of the table but are level with Everton and West Ham on 15 points and are just one point from safety.
Similarly, Nottingham Forest without injured Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi beat Leicester City 2-0.
