Two Liberians who escaped from their country in the wake of the civil war during the 90s to settle in the United States of America have been elected to offices.
They include Naquetta Ricks who won a seat in Colorado’s House of Representatives and Mr. Nathan Biah who was elected to represent Rhode Island.
Ms. Ricks said she will seek “to ensure that anyone who dwells in Colorado, whether a new immigrant or a fifth-generation Coloradan is given an equal opportunity to succeed in life.”
Mr. Nathan Biah, who is a high school principal spent his childhood in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, when the civil war broke out.
He walked to the border with neighboring Ivory Coast before reuniting with his family in Rhode Island.
