Two Nigerians elected to the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) have been celebrated by The US Mission in Nigeria.
They are Oyekunle Olukotun and Oluwole Soboyejo.
Both Soboyejo and Olukotun were among the 104 new members and 24 international members elected to the NAE in March 2021.
Olukotun is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science, Stanford University, Stanford, Calif while Soboyejo is a senior vice president and provost, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Northborough, Mass.
Olukotun earned his place at the academy following his contributions to on-chip multiprocessor architectures and advancement to commercial realization.
On his part, Soboyejo was recognized based on his contributions to understanding dynamic behavior of materials and for leadership in STEM outreach in Africa.
In a congratulatory message on their Facebook page, the mission wrote: “We congratulate Nigerian-Americans Oyekunle Olukotun and Oluwole Soboyejo for their election to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering of the United States of America.
“They were elected based on their outstanding contributions to engineering literature, pioneering new fields of technology, and implementing innovative approaches to engineering education. Kudos!”
Both Nigerian-Americans will be formally inducted alongside others during the NAE’s annual meeting on October 3, 2021.
