The US Industry and Security Bureau has announced a new rule that prohibits the export of electrical goods and smartphones worth more than $300 to Russia and Belarus.
The revised sanctions list, also known as the “luxury goods’ sanctions” list, is set to be published by the Department of Commerce on Monday.
The Department of Commerce cited “Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, substantially enabled by Belarus, as the reason for expanding and strengthening existing sanctions against the two countries.”
“The revised rule will also refine existing export controls on Russia and Belarus,” the department said.
Smartphones valued at $300 per unit wholesale price in the US have been added to the list of prohibited items under the new rule,
In addition to smartphones, the updated list also includes several other electrical goods such as TVs, printers, sound recorders, grillers, vacuum cleaners, electronic calculators, keyboards, and air coolers.
