US Vice-President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate ahead of the November polls.
The New York Times reported that the selection has elevated the former football coach whose rural roots, liberal policies and buzzy takedowns of former President Donald Trump have recently put him on the map.
Announcing her running mate on X on Tuesday, Harris described him as a coach, a teacher and veteran.
“I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team,” she wrote.
60-year-old Walz bagged a social science degree from Chadron State College in Nebraska, where he grew up. He also served 24 years in the American Army National Guard and was a command sergeant major.
The duo of Harris and Walz will contest the presidential election against Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump and his running mate David James Vance on November 5.
