Flying Eagles of Nigeria kicked off the WAFU B U20 Championship on a bright note with a 2-0 victory over group opponent Ghana in Niamey, Niger Republic on Sunday.
Ibrahim Muhammad put Nigeria in front in the 6th minute of the encounter as the Flying Eagles dominated Ghana, who are the defending champions from start to finish.
Coach Ladan Bosso’s team eventually secured all the three points when substitute Ahmed Abdullahi slotted into the net in the 78th minute.
The win puts the seven-time African champions in pole position to qualify from a group that has only three teams.
Nigeria’s Ibrahim Muhammad was named man of the match at the end of the game.
The Flying Eagles will play their last match of the group on Wednesday against Burkina Faso.
The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the Africa U-20 Nations Cup, as the two finalists will qualify for the Africa U-20 Nations Cup in Egypt in 2023.
