An American fighter Deontay Wilder has made quantum lip in the WBA heavyweight category after he latest boxing ranking placed him as number one.
Wilder’s latest ranking exploit is coming ahead of expected big bout against fellow American Oleksandr Usyk.
Also, regular titleholder Daniel Dubois is still WBA mandatory challenger for Usyk.
The Bronze Bomber as Wilder is also known overtook British contender Martin Bakole, who has now dropped to number two position.
What makes the leapfrogging of Bakole all the more stunning is that both boxers haven’t fought since the last top-division list was produced.
Before the March WBA announcement, no fighter took up the first position.
British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua is occupying number three position, before Cuba’s Lenier Pero Lac who is ranked fourth.
From Canada, comes Arslanbek Makhmudov Naba who is occupying fifth position.
Luis Ortiz of Cuba is sixth on the WBA heavyweight ranking.
Filip Hrgovic (Croatia), Jonathan Guidry (United States of America), Jarrell Miller (United States of America) and Murat Gassiev (Russia) occupy seventh, eight, ninth and tenth positions in the top 10 rankings.
