Former Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Bonfrere Jo, has blamed the poor performances of the senior national team on Gernot Rohr’s technical ability.
Rohr took reins of the West African side in 2016 and has so far, led Nigeria to the World Cup and a third place finish at the African Cup of Nations tournament.
Having commented on Nigeria’s lacklustre performances in recent years, Bonfrere Jo who won gold for Nigeria at the Atlanta 96′ Olympics, as well as coming second at the AFCON 2000, believes Nigeria’s current football status does not befit the country.
The Dutchman claimed that the Nigerian team has quality players but they are being used in the wrong positions on the pitch
“Nigerian football is the quality that I think the nation should be in right now. Nigerian football must be respected across the continent.
“We have very good players in the national team but the thing is that they use them wrongly on the field of play. That’s the problem,” he said.
Bonfrere worked as an assistant coach with his compatriot Clemens Westerhof where they won the AFCON 1994 and qualified Nigeria into the round of 16 at the World Cup.
