Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Kepa Arrizabalaga will start in goal for Chelsea instead of first choice goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.
The world’s most expensive goalkeeper lost his spot to the Senegalese, who was brought in from Rennes under Frank Lampard in September and since then, the Spaniard has been pushed into obscurity with Mendy’s presence.
However, the 27-year-old maintained an impressive run of form in the FA Cup as Chelsea cruised to their first final since 2018; conceding just once against Luton Town in the 4th round.
He was handed a starting role in the Premier League but a howler from Jorginho saw Chelsea limp to 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday.
Despite conceding a goal against the Gunners -his second in EPL after six appearances this season, Tuchel has decided to stick with Arrizabalaga ahead of crucial Wembley clash with Leicester City on Saturday.
“He starts the FA Cup final.” Tuchel said. “We trust him and he deserves it, that is the basis of why we put him in the line-up.”
Tuchel will be looking for his maiden silverware in English Football which would be further evidence his impact when they face fellow ‘big six’ Leicester City.
