Guinness World Records (GWR) has encouraged Africans to follow in the footsteps of Nigerians in their pursuit of breaking records.
However, GWR emphasized the importance of registering attempts beforehand and adhering to the rules.
So far, the GWR has received 1,572 applications from Nigerians for record attempts since chef Hilda Baci’s four-day cook-a-thon in May was recognized by the organization.
Nigerians have been attempting to break records in a variety of ways, including crying non-stop, massaging non-stop, and frying huge amounts of snails.
GWR Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said he is happy to see Africans setting records, but noted that it is important to follow the rules. He also said that 95% of record attempts get rejected.
The GWR has thus urged Africans who are interested in breaking records to contact the organization first to discuss their plans.
This will help ensure that their attempts are successful and that they are following the rules, it advised.
