Tottenham suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester United to place their top four hopes on the ice.
While the defeat appears to take a great toll on Spurs’ Champions League chances, it also signaled Jose Mourinho’s worst ever run in his managerial career.
Son Heung-min had opened scoring for the Lily Whites but the Red Devils came back stronger in the second-half as goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood did damage on Mourinho’s men.
First, it was Spurs 10th defeat of the season and never before has the Portuguese tactician been beaten in those numbers in a single campaign.
Spurs have been beaten by Everton, Liverpool (twice), Leicester, Brighton, Chelsea, Manchester City, West Ham, Arsenal and Man Utd this season.
Additionally, it means that Tottenham have given away 18 points from a leading position this term. And to think that Mourinho built a reputation on solid defensive work.
Meanwhile, it was the first time that Mourinho has ever lost a home match against Man Utd.
Indeed, the Portuguese has been a coach since 2000, taking charge of Benfica, Uniao de Leira, Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Manchester United and now Tottenham.
With seven matches left to wrap up this campaign, Spurs are six points off the pace of West Ham, who occupy fourth.
