Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has announced the launch of a new feature that allows users to lock and hide conversations.
The feature, known as “Chat Lock,” empowers users to remove selected chat threads from their app’s primary onscreen inbox and transfer them to a secure folder accessible only through a password or biometric recognition.
Termed as “one more layer of security” by Meta, the company emphasizes that users can now safeguard their “most intimate conversations” and keep notifications hidden.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, shared his thoughts on the new locked chats in a Facebook post, stating, “New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They’re hidden in a password-protected folder, and notifications won’t show the sender or message content.”
To lock a specific chat, users can simply tap on the name of an individual or group and select the lock option.
When users wish to access these chats, they can gradually pull down on their inbox and enter the password or use their biometric credentials, as outlined by Meta.
The global rollout of this new feature has already commenced, offering WhatsApp users around the world an enhanced level of privacy and security.
