Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has revealed why the Norwegian forward chose to join Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United in a fascinating interview.
Haaland transferred from RB Salzburg to Dortmund, and his agent explained why he chose a move to Germany by using an interesting supercar analogy.
Raiola is one of the most powerful figures in football, responsible for handling stars such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Matthijs de Ligt and Romelu Lukaku.
“Negotiations with him were persistent. But it is Zorc’s credit that Erling plays at BVB today,” the renowned football agent told Sport1.
“I am a car fan. When you have a choice between a Mercedes S63 AMG or an Audi RS6, that’s difficult, isn’t it? Both are good cars.
“Erling was faced with the decision at the time. And Zorc clearly demonstrated the advantages of his S63 AMG over the RS6. He sold the club in such a way that Erling said: ‘I’ll see myself there. I can develop here.’
“BVB has developed enormously. He can be an example for the international football world. Dortmund bring absolute super talents. Back then they had the balls to sign someone like Erling, who was still quite unknown, but cost a lot of money.
“Haaland, [Jude] Bellingham, [Jadon] Sancho, these are major investments that are worthwhile. If they had hesitated a year, they could never have bought these players. Now everyone looks appreciatively at Dortmund.”
The 21-year-old is widely tipped to leave Dortmund in the summer, and has a release clause in the region of £64million.
A number of Europe’s top clubs have been linked with Haaland, and includes the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
