Upon his arrival in Abuja on Thursday from his two-week medical leave in London, UK, President Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons why he appointed Usman Alkali Baba as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after he landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Buhari said he was convinced that Baba was the most qualified out of the names given to him for consideration.
“Well, we went through the system, there was a committee by the Minister of Police Affairs, they gave me some names and he happened to be the one chosen. He knows his job, he has been in it for a long time, he went through all the trainings, he has the necessary experience. So, we have a high expectation from him,” Buhari said.
On the performance of the new Service Chiefs, Buhari said: “they have been in the system all the way, they know what is wrong, they know what is right and I think they are doing their best. I hope their best will be good enough for Nigeria”.
The president added that he feels very well after his rest in London, and that Nigerians should expect continuity from him.
