Former Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has made a stunning revelation that many people wanted him to drop Moses Simon when he was in charge of the national team.
However, according to the German tactician, he never doubted the importance of the FC Nantes winger, who has been in stellar form for the Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Simon was outstanding in the Eagles first matches – he played a part in the build up to the 1-0 win over Egypt and then scored and assisted in the 3-1 victory over Sudan to be awarded CAF Man of the Match.
“When I was coach, a lot of people wanted me to drop him, but he is very important to my team,” he revealed on Canal Plus TV, where he is a pundit for the AFCON.
“He puts the team first and plays for all with ease.
“I love his attitude on the pitch and he’s a perfect gentleman off the pitch.
“I never doubted him.”
The former Levante man could be rested for the game against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday after Coach Augustine Eguavoen promised to give fringe players opportunity for their last group D clash.
