The Federal government has clarified that Nigeria failed to be shortlisted for Pfizer vaccine not because the nation had no storage facilities.
The Executive Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib explained that the nation missed out of the allocation due to the overwhelming death rate in other African Countries.
According to him, other African Countries like Cape Verde and Rwanda got the vaccine due to the increasing number of cases threatening their relatively low population.
He added that South Africa got the vaccine due to the confirmation and prevalence of a new strain of the virus.
It would be recalled that Nigeria had announced readiness to receive 100,000 doses of di vaccine in early February.
However, the WHO in an apparent last-minute decision decided to prioritize distribution to countries whose need the vaccine surpassed that of Nigeria.
