It has now been confirmed that the World Boxing President, Boris Van Der Vorst, will arrive in Nigeria on February 23, 2025 for an official visit.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Nigeria Boxing Federation on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement said the historic visit comes amid a myriad of challenges facing the sport of boxing on the African continent.
“His visit is part of his continuous engagement with key boxing stakeholders around the world, especially in Africa, to seek support from Nigeria and other African countries towards moving the sport forward.
“President Boris Van Der Vorst will also meet with the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), as key stakeholders who play pivotal roles in ensuring that Nigeria has strong representation in boxing globally.
“His visit is expected to bring significant attention to the sport, particularly in the areas of boxing gym development and the provision of standard equipment that will enhance training and improve the performance of boxing athletes during competitions,” the statement said.
President Boris is scheduled to arrive at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Abuja, and will visit local boxing gyms after the official welcome ceremony.
The schedule further revealed that Boris will meet with Boxing Federation Presidents from other African countries on February 24, followed by a dinner later in the day.
As part of his visit, President Boris will pay a courtesy visit to the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) on February 25, 2025, before departing on February 26.
