After officiating during the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, Referee Szymon Marciniak has been selected to take charge of upcoming UEFA Champions League final game.
The final is scheduled between Inter Milan and Manchester City.
Marciniak from Poland was incharge when Manchester City beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League.
The 42-year-old arbiter was also involved in Inter Milan’s 0-0 draw at Porto in the round of 16.
Historically, the first World Cup-Champions League final double was done by English referee Howard Webb in 2010.
Marciniak became the first Polish referee to officiate a World Cup final, when he took charge of Argentina’s penalty shootout victory over France in Doha and was praised for his handling of the contest.
The Champions League final, which will be held in Istanbul on June 10th, will have the same team of on-field officials as the World Cup final, with Marciniak once again being assisted by compatriots Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz.
