The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been handed a major boost by news of William Troost-Ekong’s return to training ahead of World Cup play-off against Ghana later this month.
A groin problem had ruled the 28-year-old out of action, but he has now returned to fitness and will be part of Coach Augustine Eguavoen’s team.
However, the Olympic bronze medalist will be unavailable for action when Watford take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday night.
“William Troost-Ekong makes his return to full training today following a minor groin problem, but tomorrow’s Molineux encounter is likely to come too soon for the Nigeria captain,” a statement from Watford website read.
His only game for the Hornets in 2022 was against Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day before joining the Nigeria national team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Even at his return from Cameroon after the Super Eagles crashed out of the Round of 16, the former Udinese centre-back has only contributed as an unused substitute against Burnley, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
Nigeria will take on Ghana in opening leg of the fixture at the Cape Coast Stadium will now take place on March 25, before playing host to the Black Stars four days later at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
