A top Nigerian Wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye has become the first athlete to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for Paris, France.
This was after she won Nigeria’s first medal at the ongoing 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The multiple Commonwealth champion won a bronze medal in the Women’s 57kg Freestyle Wrestling after beating Elvira Kamaloglu of Turkey 9-5 points.
The victory made Adekuoroye a four-time World medalist.
Also, this will be her third consecutive Olympic Games after she made her debut at the Rio 2016 event.
She was also at the 2020 Olympics.
At the last Olympics, Adekuoroye was believed to be favourite to win Gold in her weight category, but she ended up not making a podium finish.
During the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she then made up for her heartbreaking loss at the Olympics by winning a medal.
