Guinea President, Colonel Mamadi Doumbuya has slammed the National Elephants for their ‘disgraceful’ exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Guinean team inspired by Liverpool midfield maestro, Naby Keita reached the knockout stage after finishing as runners up in their group which had Senegal, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
But, without their influential skipper, they were sent parking following a 1-0 defeat to Gambia, with Musa Barrow scoring the only goal of the encounter.
And President Colonel Mamadi Doumbuya has reportedly blasted their performance.
“You have not showed pride or hunger to win,” said Mamadi Doumbuya.
“A disgraceful performance, you have let down 13 million Guineans.”
Guinea were heavy favourites going into this clash but without their star player Naby Keita, they were a shadow of themselves.
And debutants Gambia overpowered them on the day.
Recall, that the President reportedly warned his team before going for the tournament that they must win or refund the money spent on preparing them for the tournament back.
“The cup or you reimburse the money that’s been invested in you,” the Guinean President was quoted as telling the players.
