Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced an 8% reduction in diesel prices, effective Wednesday, aiming to align with competitive market trends.
The pump price of diesel has been reduced from K32.54 per litre to K30.23 (about US$1.07) per litre for April.
ERB Board Chairperson James Banda confirmed that while diesel prices have been adjusted, the costs of petrol, kerosene, and Jet A-1 fuel remain unchanged.
Petrol will continue to sell at K34.98 per litre, kerosene at K29.56 per litre, and Jet A-1 fuel at K32.51 per litre.
The price adjustment coincides with the implementation of Zambia’s Open Access tender process, launched on 1 April 2025, to enhance transparency and market-driven pricing.
This system allows multiple fuel suppliers to bid for the right to import fuel into Zambia, fostering competition and stabilising fuel prices.
According to Banda, the most competitive bid under the Open Access framework for April was a premium of 84 US dollars per metric tonne, setting the stage for monthly adjustments based on competitive bidding.
The price reduction is expected to bring relief to consumers and businesses, supporting broader cost-saving measures as Zambia refines its energy procurement policies.
